04/05/2018 - Class Discussion

Alright so today in class we had a group discussion for one hour and a half and all we did was look at each others magazines and blogs and talk about what to say what not to say and we basically just gave each other tips on how to make our magazines better. This group discussion also allowed me to get inspired by the other projects my classmates are working on. They gave me ideas for the title of the magazine, the table of contents etc. For the table of contents I told them how I wanted put only the more informative and important pages on it so people could go read and get straight to the point. They really liked the idea and some of them in fact were doing the same thing that I suggested. I still wasn't fully convinced with my magazine name, "Fitness Frenzy," because i wasn't sure it I liked it or if it gave out the right information. My classmates helped me find the real meaning behind the name and gave me ideas for other magazine names but in the meantime, Fitness Frenzy is winning. They made me realize that it's the perfect name and if people know what frenzy means then they know exactly the intensity and impact that this magazine will have on them if they actually read it an follow what it says.
Now, they helped me a lot with what types of changes I could make to my magazine, but I also want to share in what ways i got to help them. I've been into film and movies and even creating my own personal films. This classmate of mine showed me his movie clip for his project and I helped him and gave him ideas of what types of sound effects to use and what types of transitions o use from clip to clip on certain occasions. I also helped another one of my classmates come up with the perfect title and cover article for their magazine. Her project was a magazine about make-up and well, even though I'm a make-up expert I still got creative enough to give her the perfect name for her magazine and a great cover article for it. Alright that's all that I have for you guys today. i thought it would be nice for me to have shared this moment with all you. Till next time!

04/02/2018 - Table Of Contents

That's right, we're back once again. This week I've been working on how to make my magazine perfect by adding and removing a couple of things which I will be talking about in this weeks blogs. Let's start of with my new addition. The table of contents. One of the most important things a magazine needs in order for people to be able to locate certain articles in the magazine. There are 5 major keys to having a table of contents.

  • Make a good impression. Make your document have a more professional look to give the readers a better first impression.
  • Arrange your material. A TOC helps you create and edit a document in a more organized way without leaving out any type of important and useful information.
  • Manage reader expectations. The TOC can be used by the author to set the tone and the for the document. It also gives the readers an idea of what will presented in this document.
  • Make the document easier to discuss. Imagine reading a document that has no page numbers. Even worse, no table of contents. How are you going to have a discussion on something when you have no way to refer back to the information you're talking about. Always include a table of contents in your document.
  • Complement your training outline. The TOC acts as an executive summary or cheat sheet for the content of the document.
I want my magazine to be very well organized. I want to make it easy for the people who read it to be able to locate everything inside the magazine. I want them to feel comfortable while reading it. Organization is key. If you just have a magazine with articles on every page not knowing where anything is located is it even enjoyable to read. You have to put yourself in the other person's shoes. Make it something that you go and say WOW. Something that not only everyone can enjoy but you can enjoy with them as well.

03/28/2018 - Cover page key points

Now that I explained a little more about the title of my magazine, this is what it should look like when I finish it.

I still don’t have the perfect background for it, but for now, you can see what it’s going to say, where it’s going to be located, the size of each article name, and the font they’re all in. Let me draw it out for you. The title is all the way at the top because I want it to be the first thing the viewers read when they see this magazine. The title has the largest font size in the cover page. On the left side, I have the names of the articles that will be inside of the magazine. Keep in mind these aren’t the main articles. The main cover article is written in larger font than the other articles, but in a smaller font than the title.

Let me explain why the font sizes are all different. The title is probably the one of the most important parts of any magazine cover. It has the largest font size so the audience can see that first and read the title to get an idea of what the entire magazine will be based on. Then comes the main cover article. This is the second to largest font size on the cover page. The reason its larger than the font sizes of the other articles is because I want to make this article seem more important than the other ones without even having the read all the articles. The cover article will talk about the main reason I decided to write this magazine. Last but not least, are the rest of the articles. I’m not saying that these other ones aren’t important. But they’re just more background and additional information sort of backing up the main cover article. This is why they have the smallest font size in the cover page.

03/26/2018 - New information about my title

Alright so it’s been another week of me creating my magazine and finding the right details to make everything perfect. As you all know, I already had the idea for my magazine cover which I introduced to you guys. Now, I came up with a very important key point. The size of the title. We already came up with the font and the name of the magazine. All we had left to for was find the perfect size. You want to make sure you don’t make the title so big that it doesn’t allow your readers to see the background and the other small details located in the cover page of the magazine. Let me explain a little bit about the importance of a magazine’s title. Titles should say just enough to arouse interest and curiosity and should be in the right place and the right size. This is why I decided to make the font size 64 ad place the title all the way at the top. That way, the font isn’t too big, but at the same time it’s not too small. It’s just the perfect size for the viewers to focus on the title but at the same time look at the other details in the cover page of the magazine.

Although the title is important, you can’t make the readers only have their attention on that. The other details in the cover page may be small but they also play a very important role. For example, the titles of the other articles that will be in the magazine will be listed on the cover page. That way the readers can have an idea of what each article is going to be about. You also have the image in the background. The image can have certain colors that attracts the audience’s attention. So of course, the title has a very important role in the magazine cover, but we can’t make the readers ignore the rest of the details on the cover page.
